Michael Jackson and U2 Share British Awards
Michael Jackson, Britain's George Michael and the
Irish group U2 have won the British record industry's top 1988
awards.
At a ceremony Monday night, Mr. Jackson was named
best international solo artist for his hit album ''Bad.''
The award for best British male singer went to Mr.
Michael, the former star of Wham! Alison Moyet was named top female
vocalist.
U2 was named the top international group for its
album ''The Joshua Tree,'' while the Pet Shop Boys were voted
the best British group.
Rick Astley, who until six months ago worked as
a waiter, took the prize for best British single for his hit ''Never
Gonna Give You Up.''
Terence Trent D'Arby, an American singer, was
named the top international newcomer.
