Ex-Terence Trent D'Arby på nettet 16.5.2001
- af Maria Ellen Bernhard
Sananda Maitreya, som indtil for 5 måneder siden hed Terence Trent D'Arby,

Terence Trent D´Arby online under nyt navn
succesfulde Introducing The Hardline According To, fra 1987, blev han
Wishing Well, Sign Your Name og If You Let Me Stay.
Albummet hedder The Wild Card, og D´Arby
at løse vore problemer.

Terence Trent D'Arby keert terug
UTRECHT 05/04/01 - Terence Trent D'Arby?
(WOL/iMediate)

Terence Trent D'Arby financiert zelf nieuwe cd

Terence Trent D'Arby has released a new, self-financed album on the internet.
The Wild Card is the singer's first new material since he released Violator in 1995.

Having been unable to secure a recording contract, he has decided to
release his latest music for free across the internet. Therefore, if you

Wild Card
TTDpromotion.com
What's a musician to do when he can't secure a record deal but still wants his music to be heard? If you're Terence Trent D'arby, you create a Web site and allow fans to download every song from your new album for free.
To promote his unreleased album, Wild Card, D'arby has made the 16 tracks available for computer savvy. This is an approach to file-sharing that even Napster opponents will enjoy. Plus, these tracks take up a hell of lot less time to download than a Napster file.
D'arby's site, www.pentacles.net/sananda, serves as both a place to download the sound files as well as way to find out whatever happened to TTD (as fans like call him). D'arby had two smash hits ("Wishing Well" and "Sign Your Name") off his 1987 album, The Hardline According To Terence Trent D'arby, that led to a devoted cult following, but little mainstream success.
Well, a lot has happened to D'arby in the past decade. Taking a cue from Prince (who he has been widely compared to), D'arby changed his name in 1998 to Sananda Matreiyeu after it came to him in a dream. He was due to release Wild Card in early 1999, but deals with Sony Records and Java Records both fell through.
That left the artist formerly known as D'arby with one option: release the album independently rather than continue to shop for record deals. And even though all of the songs are over three years old, Wild Card is a fairly entertaining collection of Hendrix-meets-Babyface grooves. As fans have always known, D'arby is a great songwriter and producer, and some of these songs rate among his best work.
"SRR 636" finds D'arby at his most raucous, laying down seductive lyrics over a bump-n-grind guitar and drum-machine mix. The mix of slightly raunchy lyrics and dance floor ready beats make this song a winner.
There are plenty of the classic TTD ballads, as well. "Love, Can You Hear Me?" and "Everything" aren't exactly in the same league as "Sign Your Name," but D'arby's smooth vocals make the material rise above mediocre.
This file-sharing approach will not revive mainstream interest in D'arby's music, especially since most of the young music-buying public were wearing Underoos when D'arby was at his peak. Nonetheless, Wild Card contains some great music, and you certainly don't see the Backstreet Boys offering free tunes.

D'Arby Reinvents Himself
Label blues send the former Terence Trend D'Arby to the Web
The artist formerly known as Terence Trent D'Arby (who five months ago
officially changed his name to Sananda Maitreya) has released his new
album independently on the Web. The appropriately titled The Wild Card,
his fifth album, is available through www.pentacles.net and will be released
through retail outlets in July. The album is Maitreya/D'Arby's first recording
since 1995's TTD's Vibrator.
Maitreya says that the album was created over a nine-month period when
he also recorded an additional thirteen songs that he would make available
at a later date. "It just hit me that I didn't have to sacrifice
this record, but I could just let people have it because what was most
important for me was that people hear the songs," Maitreya says.
"There's such a tremendous degree of constriction that happens in
labels, especially when you consider that most of the men that are running
these institutions no longer have a love or feel for music, but only an
understanding of what they presume the bottom line to be."
"The idea that I bake a pie, I then am contractually obligated to give the whole entire pie over to someone who then deigns to cut me a tiny slice and give it back. That's just an insult to my character."
Maitreya is currently at work with marketing companies to design alternate avenues for releasing new and different artists and styles of music to the public. "I'm very grateful that I was able to be squeezed by the pain into a greater realization," he says. "And with that in mind, we can just open up and be free to give the people what they deserve and not always the same reconstructed, regurgitated piece of music over and over again."

Trent D'Arby goes online
Sananda Maitreya, the singer formerly known as Terence Trent D'Arby,
has released his first album in six years on the internet.
The Wild Card is his fifth album, made available through a German website
prior to an eventual release in shops.
I am a holographic representation in the third dimension of what was requested by your souls that one of your favourite artists be.
Sananda Maitreya
The album is the singer's first since Vibrator in 1995. A long-mooted
album, The Solar Return of Terence Trent D'Arby, was never released.
Between May and July 1998, D'Arby wrote to fans on the Java Records web site messageboard to inform them that he was changing his name to Sananda.
Vehicle
On 7 May 1998 he wrote: "Terence Trent D'Arby is the vehicle through which Sananda will let his light shine. I don't know what Sananda means and I have not allowed myself to find out."
On 21 August 1998 he went on to write: "I am a holographic representation in the third dimension of what was requested by your souls that one of your favourite artists be."
"I sent a portion of my soul to embody as an artist called TTD in order to favor [sic] that request."
He then later amended his name to Sananda Maitreya, and officially changed his name five months ago.
The Maitreya myth is of a world teacher who will one day return to this world to help us solve critical global problems, according to Share International.
In an interview with Rolling Stone Online, D'Arby said the album was recorded over a nine-month period during which he also recorded an additional 13 songs that he would make available at a later date.
Controversy
He is no stranger to controversy. When he debuted on the music scene in 1987, he claimed his first album Introducing the Hardline was better than the Beatles' Sergeant Pepper.
The tactic worked, however.
The album hit number one in the UK and spent more than half a year in the top half of the UK chart. It remains to be seen whether his latest marketing tactics will have a positive effect on sales of The Wild Card.
He is certainly not the first musician to release an entire album online. The Stereo MCs are previewing tracks from their album online right up until the album's release on 28 May.
There is no official date for the release of the album in shops, but
it will be released in German-speaking territories prior to the rest of
the world.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Just Don't Call Him the Artist Formerly Known as Terence Trent D'Arby:
I'm sure zillions of people have wondered where in the wide world the multitalented TTD has been the last few years. I happen to know, because we're old friends (and we've had some alarmingly divine conversations through the years). With his all too common tale of record-company woe finally over, he has changed his name for spiritual reasons to Sananda Maitreya and is now offering his latest album, The Wild Card, online at pentacles.net--for free!
An incredibly gifted, hysterically amusing and profoundly deep artist, Maitreya recorded the album several years ago, but it was held up by his label because it was thought too eccentric and eclectic, thus the title The Wild Card.
That's putting it mildly. Originally called The Soular Return of Terence Trent D'Arby, this exquisite hunk of music can also be found (for now) on Napster and will be released officially in July.

name game
the artist formerly known as ttd is now changing to an even sillier moniker
Remember Terence Trent D'Arby, the spindly, athletic, bendy guy who implored you to "sign your name across his heart"? Well, he's no longer the man he used to be.
In a move reminiscent of the artist formerly known as Symbol and known once more again as Prince, and Cat Stevens, who became a Muslim, renounced music and changed his name to Yusuf Islam, dear old Terence has decided to be reborn again as Sananda Maitreya.
What exact this name means, he's not divulging: "Terence Trent D'Arby is the vehicle through which Sananda will let his light shine," he wrote on a fan website, "I don't know what Sananda means and I have not allowed myself to find out. I accepted it on faith, but I know it's positive and I know it's good."
Born again guru
Yeah, like, that's really cosmic, Sananda, man! Now, Sananda/D'Arby has
followed the only route open to a new age, born-again guru: he's released
his latest album on the internet. The follow-up to 1995's moderately successful
Vibrator, the new work is called The Wild Card and is available for download
at the German magazine ProSieben Online.
And despite the obvious hideousness of Sananda's poetry (which you can find at the Sananda fan site), Wild Card really is quite good value for the price of free. A track called Shadows recalls vintage D'Arby and My Dark Places is smooth and funky, while The Inner Scream has a certain trip-hoppiness that goes well with Sananda's creamy voice, and builds to an impressive crescendo.
Another called srr 636 is a rollicking, rockin' powerhouse. And the catchy Everythang has as much hit potential as 'Sign your name...' By whatever name, there can be little doubt: this little bendy guy can sing.
However, Sananda should recall that abrupt identity changes have never helped the careers of any pop stars to date: TAFKAP sank into indulgence while Yusuf Islam disappeared altogether. And internet releases haven't helped the likes of Public Enemy and The Smashing Pumpkins. Let's hope that TAFKATTD does just a little better.

TTDA : appelez-moi Sananda Maitreya !
Well".
L'ancien soldat de l'US Army cherche

Sananda Maitreya: Terence Trent D'Arby verschenkt sein Album - 22.05.2001
Sananda Maitreya noch einmal als Terence Trent D'Arby
Pop
In seinem
Egal was kommen wird
Neuer Name, neue Pläne. " The Solar Return of Sananda"

Your Name" oder "Dance Little Sister" konnte er mehrmals
die Spitze der Charts erklimmen.
Jetzt ist alles neu. Zum einen: Der Name. Terence heißt nicht mehr Terence sondern Sananda. Und Trent D'Arby heißt nicht mehr Trent D'Arby sondern trägt den klangvollen Namen Maitreya. Also insgesamt Sananda Maitreya.
Toll, was?

Wer ist Sananda Maitreya
Der neueste Trend bei Musikern: Den altbekannten Namen ablegen. Puff Daddy
inzwischen Sananda Maitreya nennt.

seinem neuen Künstlernamen Sananda Maitreya veröffentlicht der New Yorker
Musiker am 8. April sein neues Album im Internet. Wer sich jedoch bereits

"Shadows" kostenlos downloaden .
(rd)

Terence Trent D`Arby aka Sananda Maitreya
"Shadow"
let me stay" oder Sign Your Name bewogen hat, findet
sich jetzt ausschließlich in seinem Namen wieder. Immerhin nähert sich
Tafkat (The Artist formerly known as Terence) musikalisch jenen Frühtagen.

allindirizzo www.pentacles.net

The album is Maitreya/D'Arby's first recording since 1995's TTD's Vibrator.
ouvir as canções.

(PM)
